The Raines (Galway)
Friday 29th August 2025
Live at Jerry Moynihans,
Upper Gladstone St Clonmel
Clonmel World Music kicks off a busy Autumn/Winter series of shows this month, and for the first show in the series Gerry Lawless is delighted to present The Raines, from Galway.
The Raines, comprised of Clonmel’s own Ruth Dillon, with Yvonne Tiernan and Juliana Erkkonen, have been making waves in the music scene with their last five singles going to No.1 in the iTunes charts.
The Galway-based folk Americana group, The Raines, released their debut album “Reverie,” in 2023 followed by a nationwide tour. The album showcases the band’s deep connection, unique blend of musical styles and features a collection of captivating songs. They since released a single “North Ohio” in 2024 which was also play-listed on RTE Radio1 along with most of the songs on their debut album.
In anticipation of the album release, Ruth Dillon said “My warmest feeling about working on ‘Reverie’ is the beautiful musical union and friendship built between myself, Yvonne and Juliana. We worked hard to bring an album that is full of connection, textured and melodic but that would also honour our own individual voices and styles.”
Yvonne Tiernan said “Holding our album ‘Reverie’ in my hands is very meaningful as it has been a lifetime in the making for me personally having worked in the music industry since I was 17. It’s a joy to be part of a band that works so well together and to have created this collection of music we love is enough.”
And Juliana Erkkonen said “It has been a such a rewarding experience for me recording this album as I composed and recorded all my violin/strings and vocals in my own studio which I have been developing over the last few years. I am incredibly proud of how it turned out”.
“Reverie” is set to be a standout album in the folk Americana genre, a reflection of female sensitivity, intuition, sincerity and inspiration and showcases the distinct musical style and skill of The Raines.
Following on from recently appearing as special guests to Hothouse Flowers, Mick Flannery, and the White Horse Guitar Club, the band will bring new music as well as songs from their album Reverie.
Ruth Dillon (vocals, guitar, ukulele) has toured and recorded with the legendary vocalist Dolores Keane, is a former member of The Molly Hicks, and has three solo albums of her own. Yvonne Tiernan (vocals/ukulele/percussion) has toured the world with numerous bands, most significantly as the lead singer with ‘The Chieftains’ and Juliana Erkkonen (fiddle /vocals) has been at the forefront of the Americana music scene in Ireland for 20 years, known for her distinctive fiddle style, which blends her Finnish classical roots with rich folk traditions. She has released eight albums with her previous folk bands.
Doors for the gig will open at 7pm. Music will start at 8pm prompt.
