Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson will be in Ireland, from Australia, on a short tour in June to play at The Doolin Folk Festival, Boyle Arts festival and Galway Folk Festival.

They are playing only 2 shows outside of these Festival shows, in Belfast and Clonmel.

They will play in Jerry Moynihans, Clonmel on Friday 13th June.

Classed as Convict Rhythm and Roots, Hat Fitz and Cara are happy to be presenting their new album 6th release “The Couch Sessions LIVE” on a short Irish tour.

Their music is steeped in deep Hill Country style Blues bringing an authentic blues n folk feel from their combined heritage (AUS) and (IRE).

Hat Fitz & Cara’s musical style is a unique combination of folk, roots and gospel blues with old time flavourings reminiscent of a time once forgotten.

Hat Fitz is a “veteran” wild man of the blues scene in Australia.  He has a record 18 straight appearances at Byron’s East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, a record that is not likely to ever be broken, and one which bears testimony to his amazing live performances and popularity with festival goers.

Cara draws on her soul background (she’s toured Europe and the United States with singers such as Jamiroquai and the hugely popular Corinne Bailey-Rae), and although blessed with a sensational voice she was not content to be labelled as ‘just a singer’. She has taken to drumming duties as well as washboards, flute and tin whistle, sometimes all at once.

Aussie bluesman Hat Fitz and Irish-born folksinger Cara Robinson are a striking pair. He is a giant raggedy-bearded man, and she is a petite blonde, who barely reaches his shoulders. He has a deep, gruff Howlin’ Wolf-esqe voice while she dances with angels in her vocal. He plays wonderful resonator guitar. Her instruments are that sweet and soulful voice, her drums, washboard and her whistles.

Fitzy served his musical apprenticeship in the 1980s touring around Western Queensland playing the show circuit with his father’s band alongside boxing tent shows and rodeos. Here he came upon a vinyl album of Bo Carter playing with the Mississippi Sheiks which was to be a turning point in the way he would hone his unique style of playing. He still holds the record for the most consecutive shows at Byron Bay Bluesfest.

Cara was growing up in a commune on the other side of the world, living a gypsy lifestyle around various parts of the Northern Ireland coast. Through a substitute teacher at school she was introduced to the folk-blues of Leadbelly, and, by way of a cassette she bought at the age of 13, got turned on to Atlantic soul. Cara’s soul music background has seen her tour Europe and the USA with singers such as Jamiroquai and the popular Corinne Bailey-Rae. She has co-written songs with Bailey-Rae, Jeff Lang, Alison Ferrier, Aine Tyrell, David Holmes, LTJ Bukem, and many others.

WILEY WAYS by HAT FITZ & CARA voted Blues Album of The Year 2012 by the Australian Blues Awards and Spiral Earth magazine.

Winners of Blues Album Of The Year at the 2013 Australian Chain Awards and UK Spiral Earth, Hat Fitz & Cara also won Best Vocal Of The Year at the 2015 Chain Awards and were finalists in the 2015 Memphis International Blues Challenge in the USA.

The Clonmel Show starts at 8pm, with doors open at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now at clonmelworldmusic.com

Reviews:

Hat Fitz and Cara are hands down one of the best live duos you’ll see.

Byron Echo (Australia)

“If these don’t move you, nothing will”

Phil Jackson BITS

“Aussie bluesman and Irish Songstress get married, form a band and make great music together. This shabby hill country blues oozes cool”.

Guitar & Bass Magazine

“They pack more energy, emotion and sheer musical exuberance into one song than most manage in a whole career.”
